Annie Sloan Chalk Paint, aqua, diy, emboss, knob makeover, Remodel
I am painting my daughter’s bathroom walls and cabinets–a small reno of her bathroom 🙂 Anyway, she was not in love with the knobs on the vanity cabinets so instead of adding new knobs to the cost of the reno, I brainstormed and came up with this idea: to wet emboss them!! They are made of metal and look like this:
black boring knobs
So, I painted her cabinets with pure white Annie Sloan Chalk Paint, but didn’t distress them–just waxed them with clear wax (2 coats).
I then wet embossed the knobs using my versa mark stamp pad and zing embossing powder in a light aqua color called “powder”. Here is the finished product:
I think they turned out pretty cool–and my daughter likes them much better now 🙂
Here are some pictures of the process:
Sprinking the embossing powder over my versa marked knob.
I held them with a clothespin while I heated it with my embossing gun–and let it cool before I set it down to keep from smudging the finish. Also, while it was still hot I filled in with more powder in some of the crevices that were missed and heated it right away. Be careful during this step–the knob is really hot!
2 done and 2 to go!
Don’t be afraid to experiment!–In our other house–which was built in 1925–I embossed old metal switchplates. I painted them black and stamped them with an image and embossed them with white powder–they turned out pretty cool!
Sorry I don’t have a picture of them 😦
I will be sharing before and after pics of the bathroom soon–so stay tuned!
Have an inspired day!
